On April 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights published new Title IX regulations. Title IX (officially “Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972”) is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded educational programs and activities. The new regulations impose requirements on how colleges and universities respond to reports of sexual harassment and other types of sexual misconduct and sex discrimination. MIT is in the process of reviewing the new regulations and, if we find that changes to our current policies and procedures are required by the new regulations, they will be put in place by the required deadline of August 1, 2024.
